Essential instructions regarding airport check-in deadlines, boarding protocols, international documentation, and airline conditions.
Airline Travel Guidelines & Conditions
Important operating procedures for ticketed passengers1. Check-In Deadlines & Airport Arrival Times
To ensure smooth security clearance and avoid denied boarding, passengers must adhere strictly to airline check-in timelines:
- Online check-in: Opens 24 hours prior
- Airport arrival: At least 2 hours before departure
- Bag-drop deadline: 45–60 minutes before departure
- Online check-in: Opens 24 hours prior
- Airport arrival: At least 3 hours before departure
- Bag-drop deadline: 60–90 minutes before departure
2. Travel Documents, REAL ID & Visas
All travelers must carry valid government-issued photo identification that matches the exact legal name printed on their e-ticket.
- REAL ID Compliance: For domestic air travel within the United States, adult passengers must possess a REAL ID-compliant state driver's license, state ID, or valid passport.
- International Passports: Passports must be valid for a minimum of six (6) months beyond your scheduled return date.
- Visas & Transit Approvals: Passengers are solely responsible for obtaining transit visas, visitor visas, or electronic authorizations (such as ESTA for the US or eTA for Canada).
3. Baggage Policies & Weight Limitations
Baggage allowances depend on your ticketing airline, route, and fare class:
- Carry-On Baggage: Most standard economy fares permit one personal item (purse, laptop bag) and one overhead carry-on bag (up to 22 x 14 x 9 inches). Basic Economy fares on certain carriers allow only a personal item.
- Checked Baggage: Standard checked bags must not exceed 50 lbs (23 kg) and 62 linear inches (length + width + height). Overweight and oversize fees are assessed directly by the operating airline.
- Hazardous Materials: Lithium batteries, flammable liquids, explosives, and compressed gases are strictly forbidden in checked luggage under FAA regulations.
4. Flight Reconfirmation & Schedule Alerts
Airlines may adjust departure gates, times, or terminals without extensive advance warning. We strongly recommend reconfirming your flight status directly with the operating airline 24 to 48 hours prior to departure, and checking departure gate monitors promptly upon arrival at the airport.
5. Boarding Gate Deadlines
Airlines typically close boarding gates 15 minutes before scheduled domestic departure and 20 to 30 minutes before international departure. Passengers who are not at the boarding gate when doors close forfeit their seats without eligibility for compensation under carrier Contract of Carriage rules.
6. Special Assistance & Mobility Requests
Travelers requiring wheelchair assistance, oxygen equipment, traveling with service animals, or requesting unaccompanied minor services should notify FaresLocator and the operating airline at least 48 to 72 hours prior to departure so arrangements can be coordinated with airport ground handlers.
